[Winpcap-users] Why does WinPcap 3.1 attempt dial-out on installation?

Hi A Sloane,

as explained in the changelog of winpcap
(http://www.winpcap.org/misc/changelog.htm) since version 3.1 the installer
attempts to connect 
to the winpcap website to display a webpage that checks if this is the
latest release of the product.

Hi,

I've checked the manual, FAQs and list archive but cannot find any
explanation why WinPcap 3.1 tried to access my DNS (logged and blocked by
firewall) on installation.

Is this known behavior? Could someone give an explanation please?
