You need to use windump -D (uppercase), not -d.

Hope it helps

Subject: [Windump] Windump Issue with Vista SP1

  Hello,

I'm trying to windump.exe on a Vista SP1 machine and it keeps reporting that it's not recording any packets? I connect directly to the internet and to not have a VPN/PPP connection installed, it's a fiber backbone connection I'm using. I have turned off my firewall, and anti-virus, updated to the latest versions of both Windump and WinPCap, but still have the issue. I have a basic Intel 82562V 10/100 NIC installed and have read all FAQ's and documentation. I've run the program with the -d switch and it lists my adapter as #96, but using windump -i #96 fails? Maybe I just don't know what I'm doing but any light you could shed on this would be wonderful.

  Thank you.
